Youth Working to Make a Difference!

Since 2003, The West Side Youth Apprenticeship Project (YAP) has offered meaningful summer work experiences for teens who either live or attend school on the West Side.

In 2005, 25 teens explored the West Side neighborhood's racial and cultural identity while also exploring their own!  In addition, teens developed leadership and workplace skills while strengthening their neighborhood.  Teens apprenticed at organizations like the West Side Citizens Organizations, the West Side Safe Neighborhood Council, the Riverview Library, West Side Community Health Services (La Clinica), the American Red Cross, St. Matthews Catholic School and Jerabek's Coffeehouse.

Stay tuned for YAP in Summer 2007!

I always thought you had to wait until you’re 18 to get a job, but I’m doing this at 14. And it means a lot that I’m doing good work in my neighborhood.
