Any
child or teen can hop on the West Side Circulator and ride
free of charge to any number of community organizations where
learning and community involvement activities for youth and
families take place. The Circulator goes around the neighborhood
on a fixed route and stops at places like the Girl Scouts,
Riverview Library, Baker Recreation Center, neighborhood parks,
Neighborhood House/ El Rio Vista, the Boys and Girls Club,
and Humboldt High School. The Circulator operates during
the day during the summer and on selected school vacation
days, and it operates during after-school hours throughout
the school year.
The
West Side Circulator was created through a combined effort
of over 17 West Side organizations. Community organizations
and parents on the West Side know that transportation is a
barrier to participation in community-based learning opportunities
for kids and families, and they started the Circulator as
a community solution to transportation for youth in the neighborhood.
The
West Side Circulator is a truly unique approach to neighborhood
transportation! Now, transportation is not program or
organization specific- it is comprehensive and inclusive transportation
for all children and all organizations on the West Side. Children
and youth have access to a myriad of safe and engaging places
and more opportunities to build relationships with caring
adults. Organizations plan learning opportunities in
order to take advantage of the Circulator, and youth and parents
plan what they are going to do when they are not in school
using the Circulator.
See
the attached
schedule for the route, stops and time of operation.
