The
Neighborhood Learning Community is a network of people and

by engaging young people in fun and relevant learning that
is youth centered. Get involved on the West Side by checking

Program Schedule & Circulator Map 2008
Examples
of projects promoted by the NLC that you can get involved
with include:
- All
Around the Neighborhood provides school release day learning
opportunities and summer day camps, which are offered free
to young people in kindergarten through grade 6. All Around
the Neighborhood turns the neighborhood into a living classroom
by encouraging community members to teach fun topics at
different and sometimes surprising sites throughout the
West Side.
- West
Side Youth Apprenticeship Project engages high-school aged
teens in exploring career options through paid community
based summer jobs. It's a real job with real work responsibilities,
but it is also an opportunity for young people to build
a relationship with an adult mentor, and learn about different
career possibilities while making a difference in their
community.
- The
West Side Youth Guides is a program for 6-8 graders, in
which teens develop leadership and mentoring skills by leading
activities for younger children and participating in fun
group building activities.
- The
Teen Scene describes all sorts of year round activities
for teens on the West Side. Whether you are into Art, Technology,
Music, or even School, check out the Teen Scene to find
out how you can get more involved!
- The
West Side Circulator is a free bus operating year round,
connecting places of learning in the neighborhood; you can
hop on the West Side Circulator and get a free ride to the
library, Neighborhood House, Boys and Girls Club, and lots
of other places on the West Side!
